Lin Baixue (27/10/1995) has always been fascinated by natural landscapes. Her works depict a beautiful forest park in her hometown of Zhangjiajie, Hunan. These mountains’ unique shape has been formed by the cutting and differential weathering of water over time. Her works center on the natural scenery of Zhangjiajie, and her expressive techniques are abstract, reflecting the relationship between rivers, mountains and natural landscapes.
A monotype is a single printed work, which means that it cannot be reproduced. Each work is unique, thus making the monotype a unique modern interpretation of traditional printmaking techniques.
To make the monotype prints, Lin Baixue first draws the images and paints them with a Chinese brush on an acrylic sheet. Afterwards, the sheet is rotated and placed on its side for rendering. Taking advantage of the fluidity of ink and oil paints, vivid colors are deliberately dripped before printing, a technique that renders lifelike movement and captures the ever-changing water. She then completes the process by pressing the acrylic sheet onto thin paper, transferring the color to the final support.
